Pump & Valve Packing


Pump and valve packings, also called compression or gland packings, provide reliable sealing in dynamic applications, including valves, expansion joints, and rotary, centrifugal, and reciprocating pumps.

These packings are made from soft, pliant yarns, typically braided for strength and flexibility. Additional materials, such as lubricants or wire reinforcements, can be added to enhance performance for specific applications.

Packings are supplied in set lengths and cut into rings, which fit into the space between the rotating component and the valve or pump body. When the gland follower is tightened, the packing compresses, expanding radially to form a secure seal that prevents leaks.

Individual pump and valve packing types have different properties, including temperature limits and chemical resistance.
