Silica Cloth

Silica Cloth
Silica cloth is produced by densely weaving continuous filament silica yarns, resulting in a smooth fabric with high tensile strength. This material serves as an alternative to ceramic cloths because of its resistance to elevated temperatures and molten metal splash. Common applications include custom straight sleeves and connectors, turbine insulation, welding blankets and covers, expansion joints, and furnace linings.
Silica cloth is available in custom sizes, by the roll, or manufactured to meet specific requirements.

Key Features

  • Temperature: Up to +1000°C (continuous).
  • Exhibits strong chemical resistance, except when exposed to hydrofluoric acid, phosphoric acid, hydrochloric acid, magnesium, sodium and silicon.
  • Excellent resistance to heat.
  • Does not vitrify.
  • Vermiculite dispersions are added to the cloth to improve resistance to molten metal splash.
  • Non-porous to dust and incombustible according to DIN 4102 A2.
