Polyethylene PE1000 sheet (UHMW / UHMWPE) is a highly durable thermoplastic known for its self-lubricating properties and exceptional resistance to abrasion, impact, and wear. It withstands many chemicals and solvents, excluding strong oxidising acids like nitric and sulphuric acid. This material boasts one of the lowest friction coefficients among engineering plastics we offer. UHMW also absorbs very little moisture, delivers excellent electrical insulation, and resists ultraviolet degradation. However, it is unsuitable for continuous use above +120°C and may become brittle below -150°C. Its waxy surface makes bonding challenging.
Henry Gallacher supplies UHMWPE sheets in various colours, each maintaining consistent mechanical, thermal, and electrical characteristics. We stock black and green 'regen' recycled grades ideal for general applications, offering a reduced environmental impact due to recycled content. Additionally, natural (virgin) and blue grades meet FDA food contact standards. For specialised needs, UHMW variants with specific fillers and additives are available. For further details, please refer to our PE1000 sheet overview.
UHMW is commonly fabricated into components for sectors such as food processing, bottling, packaging, marine, and quarrying. Henry Gallacher frequently converts PE1000 into wear strips, chain guides, replacement parts, docking fenders, and chute or hopper linings, utilising our advanced in-house plastic machining capabilities. The black 'regen' recycled grade features excellent surface resistivity, making it suitable for anti-static applications; please consult the technical data sheets below for more information.
