PTFE sheet, known as polytetrafluoroethylene or Teflon™, is a premium engineering plastic renowned for its wide temperature tolerance, chemical inertness (excluding some alkali metals), and exceptionally low friction coefficient. It also offers excellent dielectric properties and corrosion resistance, though its non-stick surface can cause material creep over time.
Henry Gallacher supplies a variety of PTFE grades tailored to different needs. Our most commonly stocked grade is Virgin PTFE, which meets FDA and EC food-contact standards. This can be provided with an etched backing to facilitate bonding to other materials or with a dimpled surface if preferred. We also offer composite grades filled with carbon, glass, stainless steel, or bronze, enhancing dimensional stability, creep resistance, and other specific properties such as static dissipation or thermal conductivity. For food processing environments, metal-detectable PTFE options are available, along with skived PTFE with an adhesive backing.
Thanks to its versatile properties, PTFE sheet is widely machined into components for sectors including aerospace, chemical processing, printing, power generation, and food and pharmaceuticals. Typical applications include gaskets and seals, insulators, sliding bearings, plates, and linings. While PTFE is straightforward to machine, bonding can be challenging unless the sheet has a chemically etched backing, and it is unsuitable for use with highly abrasive materials due to its softness.
We provide a plastic machining service utilising advanced CNC equipment, capable of producing parts from simple to complex geometries. PTFE rod and tube are also available. For detailed information on each grade, please follow the links below or contact us directly for assistance.
